Every once in a while, a tweet comes along that restores my faith in the power of social media to connect you with people you wouldn’t otherwise have encountered. Like this one, which appeared on my timeline today:
In case you’re wondering, “Fortune” is the name of the dragon hero of my first novel, Dragoncharm. Deeply flattered by the idea that someone would name a spectacular Red-Tailed Buzzard after one of my fictional (and mythical) characters, I responded enthusiastically, and received the following reply:
When I checked out the Coda Falconry website, I discovered that Fortune is very much the star of their show. Here’s an extract from his online biography:
There’s a very special place in our heart for Fortune as he was the first bird we purchased when we started up the centre. Fortune is a machine – he loves catching rabbits and grey squirrels, and during the autumn and winter months he excels in what he does … soaring on thermals, diving out of the sky after his prey and sitting next to us on a picnic rug whilst we have a quick cup of tea!
So to the team at Coda Falconry, based at the Lee Valley Park Farm, Essex, UK, I’d like to say a massive “thank you”! Long may Fortune fly!
