I was thrilled to learn today that School of Alyxa: Secrets and Shadows has just won a Northern Lights Book Award for Best Fantasy!
So what’s the book about? Well, it’s the first novel in a trilogy for younger readers, which I wrote under the pseudonym R.L. Ferguson. The story begins when two brothers, Finn and John, are ripped from their normal lives and sent to Alyxa, an island school that doesn’t appear on any map. Here they learn that, like the other students, they possess super-senses which give them extraordinary powers. But there is more to Alyxa than meets the eye, and soon they are forced to confront the dark secrets of the school’s hidden past.
School of Alyxa: Secrets and Shadows is published by Willow Tree Books. The Northern Lights Book Awards considers children’s books to be an art form and honours books that excel in aesthetic and literary qualities with an emphasis on permanency. The judging panel consists of industry experts in the fields of education, publishing, and writing.
